Academic Definitions
1. Academic Advisor - helps direct students through registration, major requirements, and degree completion. They can also help you explore career options with in your major and/program of study.
2. Academic Calendar - A school calendar that details the major dates and deadlines for the school year.
3. Academic Tutoring - Some schools offer tutoring services in order to help student understand course materials better. These tutoring sessions are often lead by fellow students who have experience in that area. Different schools have different tutoring resources, but some of tutoring subjects that may be offered are writing, biology, or chemistry.
4. Course Syllabus - A document that a professor/instructor sends students at the beginning of the year that details course requirements, expectations, and assignments. The instructors contact info is also on the syllabus.
5. Financial Aid Verification - After you submit your financial aid application, your school may follow-up with you if they need additional documents to verify your financial aid application. This process is called financial aid verification.
6. Major /Program of Study- is an area of study that students earn a degree/certificate in when they graduate.
7. Office Hours - A dedicated time for students to go to a professors office and talk or ask questions about a course. Check with your professor/instructor about making an appointment to visit them in their office hours.
8. Registration - the process of selecting courses for the upcoming semester.
9. Transcript - a document that lists the courses/credits a student has taken or will take.
